Export as Cmpcat

Export as CmpCat #

This is a file that only Composer Catalog can read. It’s great to use if you have a co-writer that also uses Composer Catalog. Just set the appropriate filters and export and send!

Export all writers, musicians, publishers, file associations and metadata associated with your selected tracks, using our proprietary .cmpcat file format, as a full backup that can be re-imported later.

What’s Included #

  • All filtered tracks with complete metadata.
  • File metadata for filtered tracks.
  • Writers, musicians, and publishers for these tracks.
  • Genres, moods, instruments, and statuses used by these tracks.
  • Track relationships and publishing deals.

What’s Excluded #

  • Tracks not matching current filters.
  • User account information.
  • Billing and subscription data.
  • Uploaded file content (only metadata included)

Comparison of the Export Formats #

FormatHuman ReadableFull Relationship DataBest For
CSV (Readable)Yes — easy to read in Excel. No — contact details for musicians, publishers, writers not included.Sending metadata to a publisher in a spreadsheet.
CSV (Re-importable)No — JSON format, code-like.Yes — all relationship data preserved.Re-importing into Composer Catalog with full data intact.
Cmpcat (.cmpcat)No — structured data format.Yes — complete, all data preserved.Sharing tracks with co-writers, backups, full data transfer.

Saving Export Templates #

  1. Configure your field selections for a specific publisher or use case.
  2. Click Save Template.
  3. Name the template. Example: Publisher A Export.
  4. Click Save
  5. Next time you need to export for that publisher, load the saved template and all your field selections are already configured.

Cmpcat — The Co-Writer Use Case #

One of the most powerful uses of the Cmpcat format is sharing tracks between co-writers who both use Composer Catalog:

  1. Co-writer A enters all the track data, contributors, and metadata into their Composer Catalog account.
  2. Co-writer A filters the track list to show just the co-written tracks.
  3. Co-writer A clicks Export and selects Export as Cmpcat.
  4. The .cmpcat file downloads — containing the tracks AND all contact information for musicians, publishers, and writers.
  5. Co-writer A sends the .cmpcat file to Co-writer B.
  6. Co-writer B logs into their Composer Catalog account.
  7. Co-writer B goes to Import and drags and drops the .cmpcat file.
  8. All the tracks — complete with metadata, contributors, and contact details — import directly into Co-writer B’s catalog.

This workflow eliminates double data entry between co-writers. One person enters everything, exports a Cmpcat file, and their co-writer gets the complete track records in their own catalog instantly — including all the contact information for everyone involved.

Tip: The Cmpcat format is recommended over CSV for any situation where you are transferring data between Composer Catalog accounts. CSV loses the detailed contact information for musicians, publishers, and writers. Cmpcat keeps everything.

How to Export as Cmpcat #

  1. Go to the Tracks section.
  2. Apply any filters to select the tracks you want to export (or leave unfiltered to export everything)
  3. Click the Export button in the track filter area.
  4. Select Export as Cmpcat.
