Import Your Desktop Export File

Step 3: Import Your Desktop Export File #

STEP 3 Drag and drop your export file

  1. Locate your desktop export file on your computer — the .CDA or .SDF file you exported in Step 1.
  2. Drag the file and drop it onto the import drop zone in Composer Catalog Online.
  3. The system will begin converting and reading your database — this may take a moment depending on how large your catalog is.
  4. Once complete, Composer Catalog will display a summary of everything it found in your export file.
  5. Review the counts shown — verify that the number of tracks and other data matches what you have in your desktop catalog.
  6. If the counts look correct, click Start to proceed.

Verify your counts before clicking Start. Compare the track count shown on the import screen to the number of tracks in your desktop application. If the numbers do not match, do not proceed — check that you exported the correct database file.

Step 4: Upload Your Audio Files #

STEP 4 Drag and drop your linked audio files

After the import summary is confirmed, Composer Catalog Online will detect any audio files that were linked to tracks in your desktop database and prompt you to upload them.

  1. Review how many audio files Composer Catalog found that were linked in your desktop catalog.
  2. Locate those audio files on your computer.
  3. Drag and drop all the audio files onto the upload area.
  4. You will see the files uploading to the cloud — progress is shown on screen.
  5. Wait for all files to finish uploading before continuing.
  6. Once all files are uploaded, click Continue.

IMPORTANT — Upload all your audio files now. If you skip this step or only upload some files, any tracks without uploaded audio will not have a play button. You would then have to go track by track to add the missing audio files manually — which is far more time-consuming than uploading everything at once during this process.

Tip: Gather all your audio files into a single folder on your computer before starting the import. Then when prompted you can select everything in that folder and drag it all at once rather than hunting for individual files.
