Review Summary and Continue

Step 6: Review Summary and Continue #

  1. Review the import summary (track count, instruments, genres, moods)
  2. Verify the track count matches what you expect.
  3. Click Continue to complete the import.

How Duplicate Detection Works #

When you import any file (CSV, Cmpcat, CDA, or SDF) Composer Catalog automatically compares the incoming tracks against your existing catalog. If it finds tracks that appear to be the same or very similar, a popup window appears showing you the duplicates and how they compare.

The duplicate report shows:

  • Which tracks were found to be duplicates.
  • The percentage match — for example 100% equivalent means every field is identical.
  • Which specific fields differ between the incoming track and your existing track.

Your Options for Each Duplicate #

For each detected duplicate track you have three choices:

MERGE — Updates your existing track by adding whatever is different in the incoming version. Example: If the incoming track has a new instrument that your existing track does not have, Merge will add that instrument to your existing track without overwriting anything else.

IMPORT AS NEW — Imports the track as a brand new separate entry in your catalog. The new track will have a number appended to the title to distinguish it. Example: “All Alone” becomes “All Alone 2”. Use this if you genuinely want two separate versions in your catalog.

DROP — Skips this track entirely. Nothing is imported or changed for this track. Use this if the incoming track is a true duplicate and you do not want it.

Applying One Action to All Duplicates #

If you have multiple duplicate tracks and want to handle them all the same way, use the Apply One Action to All option at the top of the duplicate popup:

  1. In the duplicate detection popup look for Apply One Action to All.
  2. Select Merge, Import as New, or Drop.
  3. All duplicate tracks in this import will be handled the same way.
  4. Click Continue to proceed with the import.
Tip: If you are importing an updated version of tracks you already have — for example a co-writer sent you a Cmpcat file with some updated metadata — use Merge. It adds the new information without overwriting what you already have.
